Character Name: Rhema Pneuma (Hray-Mah Noo-mah) Age: 40 Gender: Male Alliance: Firebender Appearance: Graying and hooded, Rhema wears a dark red floor length robe that he rarely takes off, and carries a wooden staff, painted dark red to match his robe and varnished. 5''10 and slight, his robe hides a thin frame and wiry limbs. Though not underweight, Rhema is by no means muscular or heavy. Dark Blue eyes peer out from under his hood, and speak of tales and journeys with contents unspeakable. Unkempt hair that reaches the base of his neck is shot with grey, revealing that he is certainly ageing. Both of his hands are laced with scars; only two people know the truth of their dark origin. Personality: Quiet and thoughtful, Rhema speaks only when necessary. This isn't because he is anti-social; he has simply learned that wisdom rarely speaks with many words. He walks almost everywhere he goes and has been travelling for quite sometime; the reasons for this are unknown to all but himself. He eats little, though he rarely goes anywhere without the flask at his hip full of a fruity drink of somekind; he has a deep love of iced fruit teas. Though not downcast or dark in manner, he doesn't always engage or interact; having been alone for so long, he finds it easy to slip away from anywhere unnoticed and tends to avoid making too many close friends. History: Rhema was once the Acolyte of a Preist among the Warriors of the Sun. Left to die by unwanting parents in the ruins of the Sun Warrior City as a newborn child, he was raised by the hiding people there in the ancient tenchiques of fire bending. He proved to be an inventive and intelligent firebender, beginning his training from the age of 5. He enjoyed literature and learning, but at the age of 15, discovered a secret most terrible. Whilst searching through the ancient archives of the Sun Library, he found a scroll in an ancient dialect of the fire nation that documented something called "The Banishing of Shua-Yae". He learned that the rift between the Sun Warrior Tribe and the Fire Nation wasn't as a result of the last fire nation conquest at all, as all his people said and probably believed, but went much deeper. He discovered that a man named Shua-Yae had risen to fame in the fire nation for performing miracles and teaching about the meaning of the Eternal Flame, the first flame given the fire nation by the Dragons. But, in teaching that fire wasn't about destruction or anger, but about protection, peace, illumination and about the energy of life, he was cast out by the war-mongering battle-lovers of the day for "abominable witchcraft". A few of his disciples followed him to a far away land, near an Air Temple, where they founded the Sun Warrior Tribe, dedicated to the propagation of the message and teachings of the Eternal Flame, brought to men by the mouth of the Prophet Shua-Yae. Rhema discovered that the word "warrior" in the name of his tribe wasn't about combat; but about the inner war against human evil. He studied the teachings in the scroll and in others and found that the tribe had long since departed from such sacred truths and had become corrupt. The tribe of his day was full of villians and corrupt leaders, no longer dedicated to guarding the secrets of the Dragons or propagating the teachings of the Eternal Flame.
Rhema went to his mentor to tell him of what he had discovered. The reaction was not good. His mentor turned on him, telling him that he must destroy the scrolls and leave, or else be killed. His mentor it seemed, had also become corrupt, and a lover of money. Rhema decided that he couldn't destroy the sacred truths, but had to gather them up and escape, as the Last Disciple of Shua-Yae. But as he was departing under the cover of darkness, he was followed by his mentor. His mentor attacked, and after a furious battle Rhema was bested. His mentor knelt beside him and moved to gather the scrolls. Rhema looked with horror as he realised what his mentor intended to do. Rhema snatched them up into his arms and held them near to his chest...and refused to let them go. His mentor held a flame to the backs of his hands in an attempt to get Rhema to let go of them, causing excruciating pain and bleeding to the bone, but Rhema held on to the scrolls of truth. Just when all seemed lost, a great white light appeared above them and a man in a glowing red robe sent a wave of lighting toward the corrupt mentor. The man in the light revealed himself to be Shua-Yae, and commissioned Rhema to guard the scrolls until He returned to him again to reveal the Last Purpose.
All these years, Rhema has travelled with the scrolls tucked safely inside his robe. He has studied them, memorized them and translated them into modern tongue. He is still waiting for Shua-Yae to return with further instruction. He is still hiding from the Sun Warriors.
